Sewing project: face cover

I figured the most appropriate post to start would be a sewing project. My machine has been gathering way too much dust for way too long, and our new world gave me reason enough to stitch some shiz. Here’s my face cover mini project! :)
I looked up safety guidelines from a few sources, and made a basic square mask pattern with 3 pleats down each side, and chose to cut pieces out of a quart of Star Wars printed cotton & blue dotty cotton I had in my store.
There are so many tutorials & videos/classes out there right now, I don’t feel like you need to read through another breakdown of how it was made. As everyone says, it is quite simple & versatile to make, depending on what you have at home & the time you would like to spend on it. There are plenty of stitchless methods too so give it a go if you’re still maskless!
I ended up making two types cut from the same 10x6” base, & can share a couple of makers thoughts to consider:
I made one for a bearded male, whom was more comfortable wearing the elastic around the back of the head (after trying with ear loops didn’t position the mask correctly on his face) as a bit more room was needed to incorporate the extra volume below the jaw line, and keep it fitting snuggly & comfortably. That could also be the positioning of his ears too.
The other was for me, I have curly hair & luckily the ear loops (cut hair bobbles) worked with my face shape & size. It was a little long so I cut the length of my mask down by 0.5cm on each side, and put a vertical small dart in the middle of the bottom edge to help it curve under my jaw where it felt loose.
We both wear the mask with the top edge folded down at the sides, which grips the cheeks a little better, so the pattern probably need an adjustment to the top edge, curving down slightly at the sides to put this shaping in from the start.
I’m glad I got to try out 2 styles of making, they are both really easy & if you’re up for it, could be hand sewn if you don’t have a machine, I’d use a back stitch for a strong sew. It’s machine washable too!
Keep yourselves as safe as you can when you guys start to get back out there.
